Everyone has the Favorite Tree they can rest under, and see the wisdom of nature. Think about how strong you are and how much the tree has endured. You are this strong.
The Angel Oak's history dates back to 1717, when the land it stands on was part of a land grant to Abraham Waight. Passed down through generations, it was eventually owned by the Angel family, who gave the tree its name. The City of Charleston acquired the property in 1991 to ensure its preservation, and the tree is estimated to be between 400 and 500 years old.
It is not really a hike to the tree since you park in the parking lot or extra parking spaces along the roadside. It is over 100 yards into the yard where the Angel Oak stands. It is so large, it is nearly overwhelming. But you soon forget that to get close to the tree and enjoy its beauty and size.
